AVL SlimLine™ Dilution Systems

The new benchmark for full-flow diluted emission testing

Built to use less energy and be greener in their operation, the Slimline Dilution Systems offer compliance and accuracy in a user-friendly package.

The AVL SlimLine™ features the AVL AMA SL™ diluted exhaust emission measurement system, the AVL CVS SL™ dilution system for constant volume sampling and the AVL PSS SL™ for full-flow particulate sampling.

AVL SlimLine Dilution Systems Key Visual

The AVL SlimLine™ Dilution Systems are designed to take up much less space than conventional system cabinets. They enable best-in-class testbeds, with a higher test performance and efficiency to save time and reduce costs.

The systems integrate easily into your existing test architecture, and will even fit into crowded test environments that were not originally made to house measurement equipment (e.g. engine or powertrain testbeds).

Furthermore, the Slimline Dilution Systems are compliant with all legislative standards, such as EPA 40 CFR part 1066, EU 6 and China 6. They have been approved by the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA) and can be calibrated according to ISO 17025 in AVL’s accredited laboratories.

Development effort is growing dramatically due to increasingly complex powertrain technologies and stricter legislation with new and longer test cycles. The latest Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycles (WLTC), for example, are 30 % longer than their New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) forebears.
Driven by RDE legislation, there is also a trend to pull road tests ahead in the development process or to reproduce RDE tests on testbeds to increase efficiency even further. This means the already crowded test infrastructure must host even more equipment. Both time and space are becoming restraining factors.

Powertrain testbed with SL

Highly Adaptable to Every Application

To address various testing needs, we offer a broad spectrum of extensions:

  • The AMA SL is configurable as a dual-stream version to allow simultaneous bag and modal analysis.
  • For low emission applications there is a dedicated AMA SL with ultra-low range analyzers for NOx, N2O and CO measurements.
  • An extended CVS valve matrix allows the analysis of additional pollutants like formaldehyde or ethanol with a SESAM i60 FT D1 system.
  • The CVS SL Heat Exchanger is available as an alternative to the default flow compensation function.
  • In case of height limitations of the test cell where mounting of the dilution tunnel above the systems is not possible, a split cabinet version of the PSS SL allows for a flexible installation.
  • The split cabinet approach can also be used to retrofit particulate sampling systems, for example into small engine testbeds equipped with a SORE or MC AMA i60 Combi system or for test cell sharing.

AVL SlimLine

The AVL SlimLine™ enables testbeds to meet the highest design requirements and offers increased test performance:

Maximum Flexibility

Simple adaptation to engine, powertrain and chassis dynamometers in existing test facilities thanks to a flexible cabinet arrangement and smallest footprint

Unique Efficiency

Automated and parallel diagnostic functions, parallel calibration of analyzer channels, faster bag purging and a higher blower efficiency

Ease of Serviceability

Smart system design with quick and safe front access, fold-out parts, removable covers, software-based diagnosis tools and extended maintenance intervals

Green Innovation

Fewer wear parts thanks to the improved durability of materials, reduction of spare parts through elimination of maintenance-intensive components, and lower gas consumption of analyzers

Compliance

Supports R&D and emission certification testing acc. to EPA 40 CFR part 1065/1066, post EU 6 and China 6, multi-legislation checks with reports as well as calibration according to ISO 17025 and JQA approval

The AVL SlimLine™ consists of the following high-end emission measurement systems:

AVL AMA SL™

The AVL AMA SL™ measures THC, CH4, NO, NOx, CO2, CO and N2O and offers TWIN analyzers for simultaneous measurements. A low sample gas flow enables smaller bag volumes. Special analyzer variants are available for measuring ultra-low concentrations. Bag analysis can be done in parallel to modal measurements.

AVL CVS SL™

The AVL CVS SL™ features extended CVS flow rates (up to 40 m³/min) for the testing of heavier vehicles or high-performance engines. It enables faster and parallel analysis cycles due to smaller bags. The venturi switching time is improved by fast acting pinch valves. In- and outlets of the CVS can be located flexibly.

AVL PSS SL™

Condensation is avoided by heating the particle filter holders. Energy is saved by recovering waste heat from the vacuum pump. The AVL PSS SL™ features a rotary valve for filter selection with an integrated shut-off function and offers proportional particulate sampling. The position of the dilution tunnel is flexible thanks to an alternative setup with a separate heated filter box.
