ZalaZONE – operated by AVL - is a brand-new, 250-hectar vehicle proving ground in the west of Hungary specifically designed for the development and validation tests of autonomous and electric vehicles and also allowing for the dynamics and durability tests of conventional vehicles. AVL ZalaZONE offers complete test solutions with engineering services, technical equipment, workshops and offices for test staff, AB Dynamics EuroNCAP equipment for ADAS testing, HD mapping and test drivers.

The ZalaZONE proving ground has reached another milestone: on May 14, the high-speed oval track was officially opened. This new track module enables the examination of vehicle dynamics at high speeds and the execution of long-term durability tests, in full compliance with the most stringent international standards.

History
In 2017 Hungary decided to solve the lack of a complex automotive testing facility in the Middle-Eastern region of Europe, and started to build an independent automotive proving ground in Southwest of the country near to the city of Zalaegerszeg. Beside fulfilling the conventional testing requirements, ZalaZONE was designed to focus onto the future: unique track modules, up-to-date technologies should attract customers to bring their ADAS/AD-related testing activity to Zalaegerszeg.

AVL Hungary, the cutting-edge research & development center drawing on over a century of Hungarian automotive expertise, has partnered with the modern and unique vehicle testing and development facility ZalaZONE. This new partnership, AVL ZalaZONE Proving Ground Ltd., has been in operation since November 1st, 2019.
The track layout is reaching its ultimate shape. There are 10 track modules available for testing electric and autonomous vehicles in addition to the traditional dynamic surfaces within the framework of the ZalaZONE automotive proving ground project.
