Electrified propulsion systems are rapidly transforming modern transportation, creating new challenges in the evolving noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) environment, which is critical for all future powertrains. At AVL, our in-house expertise in high-speed applications and NVH testing has enabled us to develop a complete portfolio of standard NVH test system solutions. These systems can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of our valued customers.

For e-motors, our NVH solutions range from high-end performance testing to precision and efficiency setups, ensuring optimized interior and exterior vehicle sound. Tailored NVH Test Systems: Premium, Precision, and Efficiency Solutions

With our advanced NVH test systems for validating e-motors, we support all UUT variants. Our goal is to provide development environments that solve NVH challenges efficiently, quickly, and sustainably.

These NVH test systems offer a range of solutions, depending on the priorities of the main features, which are categorized into three key setups across all UUTs:

Details

 Premium

This test system focuses on developing ultra-silent
motors with an optimal balance in the testing environment.
The unique design of the acoustic room places the UUT 
in an coustic-free field, isolating the load unit and rotating
parts. With an ultra-low background noise level of less than
50 dB(A), this system sets new standards for acoustic motor
development.

Precision This setup focuses on the precise alignment
of microphones in the testbed, following ISO 3745
standards. The design enables a complete microphone
hemisphere without interference from mechanical
surfaces, ensuring accurate sound measurements.
Efficiency Efficiency is a major topic in the transformation of existing
testbeds. For customers who have invested in an NVH
chamber and/or a component testbed, we have created our
efficiency product line. The focus is on conveniently trans-
forming the testbed into a solution that seeks the best com-
promise between reasonable power and NVH performance.

Efficiency Setup

  • Easy and fast upgrade of existing anechoic chambers (e.g. engine or propulsion system testbed) to high-performance e-motor NVH test systems
  • Minimized acoustic reflections due to optimized shape and surface of dyno enclosure
  • Flexibility to use the NVH test chamber for different UUTs (e-motor, e-axle, powertrain) due to easy and free positioning of the test system inside
  • Full performance in power, torque, and speed, combined with seamless integration into the AVL toolchain
