Electrified powertrains introduce new NVH challenges, from high‑frequency tonal noise  to complex transient behaviors during control‑mode transitions. As masking noise disappears, acoustic precision becomes essential.

AVL’s NVH test systems are engineered to meet these demands, providing ultra‑low background noise, high dynamic accuracy, and the ability to replicate real load conditions across the electrified powertrain. Our scalable platforms support components, axles, and complete drive units, ensuring consistent, reliable data for light‑ and heavy‑duty applications. This enables fast, targeted, and sustainable NVH optimization throughout the entire development process.

With extensive experience in NVH powertrain test systems, AVL delivers high-precision acoustic environments for electric powertrains. The simulation-optimized design minimizes sound reflections and ensures reproducible, high-quality NVH measurements at full system level. Integrated e-axle configurations as well as complete electric drive units can be validated under controlled laboratory conditions.

The test systems are equipped with modular load units that enable flexible adaptation to different powertrain sizes and performance classes. Hinged acoustic enclosures provide easy access for maintenance and help maintain a highly controlled measurement environment, ensuring operational efficiency and long-term reliability.

NVH Testing for Light-Duty

The AVL Powertrain TS™ NVH Light-Duty system offers a highly precise acoustic testing environment for investigating the NVH of modern powertrain architectures. This modular platform supports a wide range of applications, including individual components, such as gearboxes and e-motors, as well as integrated subsystems, such as e-axles and complete electric drive units. Its simulation-optimized shaft system and carefully engineered load units minimize sound reflections and structural excitation within the NVH chamber. These features enable exceptionally low background noise levels and excellent signal-to-noise ratios for precise acoustic measurements.

Thanks to its scalable configuration and unified measurement environment, the system ensures consistent and comparable NVH data throughout the entire development process, from component validation to full powertrain optimization. This allows engineers to identify tonal, high-frequency, and transient NVH phenomena while maintaining efficient and reproducible testing conditions.

NVH Testing for Heavy-Duty

The AVL Powertrain TS™ NVH Heavy-Duty system is designed to meet the demanding acoustic requirements of modern commercial vehicle powertrains. Its scalable NVH architecture enables the precise analysis of the acoustics and vibrations of high-torque propulsion systems, including internal combustion, hybrid and fully electric heavy-duty drivetrains. Acoustically optimized shaft systems, direct-driven heavy-duty dynamometers, and carefully engineered NVH components minimize acoustic interference within the test environment. This enables highly accurate measurements across a wide frequency range.

The flexible test cell configuration supports diverse unit-under-test layouts and realistic powertrain operation under high-load conditions. This allows engineers to reproduce critical operating scenarios and evaluate NVH behavior, achieving consistent, high-quality measurement results throughout the entire heavy-duty powertrain development process while supporting efficient and reliable validation workflows.
