ELECTRIFIED:
FULLY INTEGRATED,
COST-EFFECTIVE ELECTRICAL
SOLUTIONS FOR TRUCKS
Global efforts to reduce
CO2 emissions and the
growing number of cities
with drive-in bans pose
serious challenges for
OEMs and commercial
vehicle operators. With
decades of experience
in the electrification
of vehicles, AVL offers a
wide range of efficient,
application-specific
electrification solutions
for trucks and buses.

AND BUSES
The commercial vehicle industry is under considerable pressure to further
reduce emissions and comply with strict CO2 legislation in the future.
In addition, low noise pollution and emission-free driving are required in
urban areas, which means restricting access to commercial vehicles with
conventional drive systems. The increased demand for electrified powertrains
for trucks and buses must be satisfied with products that provide
cost effectiveness and that requires costs, efficiency, range and weight to
be optimized. Of course, the various application areas – from light to
heavy-duty, long-haul or inner-city, as well as passenger or freight transport
– also have a wide variety of needs that cannot be solved with a ‘onesize
fits-all’ approach.
“When it comes to electrification in commercial vehicles, there is no blackand
white solution,” explains Heimo Schreier, Head of Product Line, Truck
& Bus Electrification at AVL. “For specific vehicles – such as distribution
trucks, city buses or waste disposal trucks – there will be specific solutions
to get the most out of each application. With Attribute and Systems
Engineering at AVL we are already focusing on early differentiation. All
parameters such as end-customer demand, performance increase or optimized
total cost of ownership are taken into account. With the aid of stateof
the-art simulation methods, we can determine which type of powertrain
achieves the best result for the specific application.”
