HIGH PERFORMANCE
AT HITACHI
AVL built one of the most powerful electric engine testbeds in Europe for
the Japanese automotive supplier Hitachi Automotive. With performance data
of 400 kW and a speed range of up to 20,000 revolutions per minute,
the test stand is also an unusual project for AVL.
The electrification of the powertrain currently presents developers with
many challenges, as not only the complexity of the systems but also the
number of solutions is constantly increasing. This makes it all the more
important to find a partner who has both extensive component knowledge
and an overall view of the system. When Hitachi Automotive Systems –
a major Tier 1 automotive supplier specializing in drive control systems,
engine management and electronic drives – needed a powerful electric
motor testbed, they turned to AVL.
INNOVATIVE TESTING SOLUTIONS FROM
A SINGLE SOURCE
AVL uniquely combines the competences for the construction of the
powertrain with those for state-of-the-art measuring and testing technology.
Using a wide range of shared software and hardware technologies, AVL test

systems provide consistent, comparable
results that make a significant
contribution to reducing development
times and costs. This makes
them an ideal, continuous tool chain
for the development of efficient and
environmentally-friendly drives.
In addition to the analysis of electrical,
mechanical, thermal and
acoustic properties, all types of
electric motors can be tested with
the AVL e-motor test systems with
regard to functionality, reliability
and durability. Cold start power
measurements can also be carried
