To improve and accelerate electric vehicle development, AVL has developed a series of battery cell testers. These are bi-directional, multi-channel DC power supplies that test, diagnose, characerize and validate battery cells. They can achieve an output current that ranges from ± 2 A to ± 2,400 A thanks to their multiple variants and the parallelization of their channels.

The battery cell is the most important component in the electric powertrain, both in terms of cost and performance. To ensure affordable and durable battery packs, it is vital to master the electrochemical processes within the cell. It is therefore crucial to conduct precise, reliable and accelaerated cell testing while minimizing the operation of your testbed. 


Highest Quality and Accuracy of Testing Results

The AVL CELL TESTER 600A uses a unique current measurement technique providing the best accuracy (0.01 % of actual value) among high current cell testers while using only one current measurement range. This
provides the following benefits:

  • Reduced test programming complexity by avoiding range switching
  • Accuracy is proportional to the output, enabling testing capacity with always the same proportional error
  • Such high accuracy provides more reliable results and reduces test time by enabling accurate coulombic efficiency analysis

This CELL TESTER 2A 5A 10A achieves an output current ranging from ±2 A to ± 40 A thanks to its numerous variants and the parallelization of its channels. It controls 64 channels with guaranteed real time with a 100 Hz data update rate using AVL LYNX 2™ with adaptable recorders.


The AVL CELL TESTER 250A achieves an output current in the range of ±250 A to ± 1,500 A. With high control and measurement accuracy, as well as the intelligent use of multiple measurement ranges, it is highly accurate and repeatable. It also includes high-speed data acquisition and control, and super-fast current and voltage dynamics.


The AVL CELL TESTER 600A is fully integrated and compatible with the AVL automation software AVL PUMA 2™ Battery and AVL LYNX 2. It uses a real-time EtherCAT interface with a setting and measurement update rate of 1 kHz.
