Aviation is undergoing a major transformation as electric flight, from air taxis to cargo drones, creates new markets and engineering challenges. Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft are rapidly gaining traction, with applications ranging from offshore transport to remote logistics and urban mobility. These manned and unmanned vehicles represent a fast-growing but technically demanding segment of modern aviation.

Electrifying aircrafts involves more than replacing classical propulsion. It introduces complex, interconnected challenges across the entire system. Energy storage is central, with batteries and hydrogen presenting constraints related to safety and dependencies with respect to environmental conditions, while onboard electrical systems add further complexity. Electric propulsion also brings new vibration and durability topics, where reliability and comfort are critical.

Simulation helps engineers to analyze the potential of different energy systems, their performance and operating behavior before building prototypes. This allows teams to explore design options, optimize performance and efficiency, and identify risks early in its highly complex design space.
