ADAS and Autonomous Driving
Vehicles on today’s market generally offer Level 2 or Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems, where the driver still needs to be engaged in the driving. Vehicles with an approved Level 3 in which the driver is allowed to turn away from traffic are still rare. AVL has a proven track record of customer projects up to L2+ and is supporting commercial vehicle customers on their way to entire fleets driving autonomously 24/7 on highways.
Mobility and Sensor Test Center Roding
With the new Mobility and Sensor Test Center, AVL opened a unique indoor laboratory for the verification and validation of sensors for driver assistance systems in Roding, Germany. In the 1600 square meter test area, safety-relevant functions can be tested under adverse weather conditions, independent of real outdoor conditions, thus ensuring the safety of vehicles in semi-autonomous operation.
Vehicle Engineering Center Hungary
Vehicle testing is one of the major pillars of the development process and a huge milestone before a new vehicle type will be released. Our new vehicle engineering centre in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, is located next to the newest and most innovative proving ground, AVL ZalaZONE. The new center offers space for more than 50 test vehicles which can be tested in the 15-hectare Smart City at AVL ZalaZONE, which provides a unique purpose-built city environment for testing the functionality of connected and automated vehicles and related technologies.
Safety and Security
Given the complexity of both developing the current and next generations of vehicle concepts, and the vehicles themselves, it’s clear that Functional Safety, Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF), and Cybersecurity cannot be an afterthought. Instead, it must be an integral part of the development process, from vehicle and system level right down to the individual component, and from the concept phase throughout the complete vehicle lifecycle.
At AVL, our approach is holistic and comprehensive, considering the entire vehicle in everything we do. In the case of SOTIF and Cybersecurity in relation to ADAS, AD and connected systems, we have many years of experience developing the tools and processes to help our customers comprehensively tackle the issues and challenges that they present. This includes the tools, such as system design, simulation, and the relevant test environments, to support development, verification and validation of the vehicle and its systems.
