NVH Testing for E-Mobility

Our commitment to silence.

Noise and Vibration or - in other words - sound and haptic feedback are among the most important factors when it comes to the overall driving ability of modern electric vehicles. Market expectations are high and require strong and well-managed vehicle NVH engineering for the interior and exterior of the vehicle. AVL has a long tradition and great experience in NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) powertrain development and vehicle sound design. For this reason, AVL has introduced a high-end NVH testbed for NVH testing ranging from components up to complete vehicle testing.

NVH and driver comfort are in the focus like never before. The entire drivetrain is becoming quieter, and the driver's expectations of noise behavior are being adapted. However, this is accompanied by a more annoying electrical sound character and, among other things, wind and rolling noise are increasingly perceptible. Lightweight housings optimized for high range transmit noise and vibration much more easily. Furthermore, with the elimination of engine feedback during acceleration and braking, new ways must be found to restore the driver's sense of the vehicle without confusing or disturbing him too much, and to support the identification of the driver to the vehicle sound.

As a company, we not only supply test equipment, but also perform high-tech engineering of powertrains and propulsion systems. We find innovative and user-oriented solutions that are always tailored towards the future requirements of automotive development from the component to the complete vehicle. With this responsibility, we are not only testing equipment, but deliver a much wider spectrum that makes us a partner from the beginning of the planning stage, through the assessment of needs, to the creation of a focused, high-performance solution.

Our Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH) testbed solutions are optimized regarding the sound attenuation of the noise generating parts and the sound reflection from the structure of the test system. This guarantees that the point of interest, the unit under test, is the focus of each single acoustic measurement. Moreover, we understand and commit to the strict and hard acoustic standards and aim to guarantee the commonly agreed NVH targets for each test system. All components are aligned, and the system is validated through an acceptance analysis to prove its performance.

NVH Solutions for E-Motor

With our NVH test systems for validating e-motors, we support all unit under test (UUT) variants. Our aim is to create development environments that can solve NVH development challenges quickly, efficiently, and sustainably. NVH test systems offer a range of solutions depending on the priorities of the main features, which can be summarized in three main areas across all UUTs: premium setup, precision setup and efficiency setup. → Learn more

NVH Solutions for E-Axle

Our experience with NVH powertrain testbeds allows us to provide a high-quality acoustic test environment for e-axles. All components and acoustic enclosures are designed by us to ensure excellent NVH performance with minimal sound reflections through simulation-optimized design. The focus lies on easiest handling of the testbed component. Thanks to movable loading units, convenient adaptation to different test specimen sizes is possible. Learn more
