Products & Services

AVL Services for Racing Customers

Operating state-of-the-art testing technology is an extremely challenging task, both technically as well as financially. To guarantee a high degree of utilization and availability of the test field and its equipment, AVL is offering specific service solutions, tailored to the needs of motorsports organizations.

Batteries for Racing

The electrification of racing vehicles is required in many different racing series around the globe. Batteries that are lightweight, reliable and capable of high performance under extreme conditions are needed to satisfy the requirements. AVL can help integrate the knowledge of cell producers and automotive requirements of racing teams in design, simulation, build and validation of batteries for race cars.

AVL Motorcycle TS

Measuring the efficiency of premium and high-performance motorcycles is dependent on environmental and human influences which can lead to inconsistency of data. Thus, the individual riding experience is often not quantifiable and the interaction of components in the system not measurable. This results in unused potential of overall powertrain performance.

Angle Encoder 366C

The angle encoder 366C is designed for the acquisition of angle marks on a rotating shaft, which are then transferred via fibre optical cable and are then assigned to rapidly changing measured values. The absolute angular position is also an output value.

For a successful performance on race day, an effective brake system is a key factor. Braking is responsible for the highest speed gradients and it can consume several thousand kilowatts of power. That’s why it is crucial that you are able to understand balancing and control unwanted side-effects such as fading and residual brake torque. Conducting each brake cornering with the desired intensity to fit your overall braking strategy is vital. Furthermore, your vehicle should be designed to provide a smooth transition between regenerative and non-generative braking behavior. At AVL RACING we have the skills, experience and solutions you need to perform these optimizations, by characterizing your vehicle’s whole braking behavior. &nbsp AVL RACING On-Board Brake Torque Measurement Developed by the experienced team in our PIEZOCRYST gallium organophosphate crystal lab, the AVL RACING Dynamic Brake Torque Sensor is our unique solution to these challenges. Created to validate and optimize brake performance on all types of vehicles, our tailored and unique piezoelectric sensor fits any disc brake geometry to precisely measure forces exactly where they occur. Our cutting-edge sensor allows you to perfectly characterize the complex behavior of the brake system with sampling rates of up to 50 kHz. Unlike other traditional solutions, our sensor is highly dynamic. We have designed it to have a very low impact on your test setup and can be installed directly onto the brake system. nbsp Implementation Into Your Brake System During braking, applied deceleration force is backed with the frictional-engaged connection between the caliper and upright. The AVL RACING Brake Torque Sensor adds a tiny layer to this arrangement, which is adapted to and mounted at the interface. This allows you to measure the whole flux of braking force. A customized solution, we have made it available in different sizes and configurations, allowing us to tailor it to your requirements. With the sensor fixed to the brake system, the compact amplifier unit can be placed anywhere in or on the vehicle. This sends the brake torque signal from the sensor to the vehicle’s control unit, or to an external data acquisition system of your choosing.
