With the increasing move to hybrid and full electric vehicles, the underbody of the modern vehicle contains many sensitive and high voltage electrical components. Protecting these valuable components is critical from a safety and reliability perspective. The forces imposed on the underbody by hitting water at speed are significant. The task to predict those forces using traditional CFD methodologies is very expensive with long solve times, even with large compute clusters available. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is a meshless particle method based on Lagrangian formulation that is now being used for these applications. This method is being applied for solving problems in water management with complex flow configurations without using a pre-calculated mesh. Solve times are a fraction of traditional CFD. PreonLab is an SPH code with superior performance, allowing for full geometric complexity, and powerful post-processing and visualization capabilities. Join this AVL webinar to learn how PreonLab software is enabling OEM’s to accurately predict flow paths of water or oil, with the goal of improving the design and integration into the whole vehicle.
